THE VOICE OF BUSINESS IN NORTHERN MINDANAO

President's Message

To our Dear Members of the Oro Chamber:

Your Chamber has set up several projects that will benefit its members for 2010. Most recent of which is the forum on the Value Added Tax (VAT)conducted last February 18, 2010. The forum and lecture was well attended and managed by our Trade and Commerce Sector, VP Tony Uy.

We have also been very active in helping bring up to government our concerns on the current energy shortfall in Mindanao. Your President together with our VP for the Manufacturing and Industry Sector Ghaye Alegrio conducted a Power Forum last February 09, 2010 to inform our members on the energy situation. VP Alegrio also represented the chamber during a meeting called by the Mindanao Business Council and the Secretary of Energy last week in Davao City. We endorsed the joint resolution of the Oro Chamber, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Industries and the PIA Industries for NPC-PSALM to speed up the repair of the Agus 5 trash rack and to put on stream the 35 mW Iligan Diesel Power Plant. These resolutions were carried during the meeting with Secretary Reyes.

Though Cagayan de Oro has been spared of the brownouts because of the presence of CEPALCO's IPPs and the cooperation of our large industry members who have shed their loads when requested to, we would like to request our members to help by using energy efficiently and to voluntarily reduce their consumption during the peak hours of 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Other adjoining areas in Mindanao are already experiencing 3 to 5 hours of daily brownouts and we are trying our best to balance our consumption relative to the curtailment figures.

I would also like to encourage our members to please attend our General Membership Meeting this coming March 11, 2010 6:00PM at the Grand Caprice Restaurant because major and important topics will be discussed such as our hosting of the Mindanao Business Conference this coming September 2010 and other important topics.

Thank you so much for supporting your Chamber.

Ralph Paguio
President
